We had 15 amazing volunteers come to Saline Valley for training and the first survey of the Western Monarch Thanksgiving Count! The monarch numbers in Saline Valley were low and we counted only 13 monarchs at Hunter Canyon. We were able to tag one monarch with the help of one of our youngest volunteers, Coco. Thank you to everyone that was able to make it!
Topics: Monarch biology and life history, survey protocol, decontamination protocol, safety, and more!
You can view the recorded webinar here.
We hosted a small training covering monarch life history, overwintering, and the survey protocol on Saturday and on Sunday we headed out in the field to learn how to tag monarchs.
If you have attended any of our trainings this year and have photos you would like to share, please send them to salinemonarchcount@gmail.com.
